FAMILIES INVITED TO PLAY GAMES DURING ORIGINS GAME FAIR FROM JUNE 23-27 “This is our 35th anniversary. The exhibit hall is sold out and there is a lot of buzz in the industry about it,” said John Ward, executive director of the Game Manufacturers Association (GAMA). “We moved the high-profile events to the first floor of the Convention Center and have more of a community interface than in the past with a greater family component. And, we have prize support for every event.” The popular day passes have returned for $5 per day per person, or $10 per family for admission to the exhibit hall. Day passes provide entry to Exhibit Hall C, the Art Show, Origins theme area, Origins Auction sponsored by Troll and Toad, and participating in open gaming. Some special ticketed events require separate admission. Exhibit hall hours are June 24, 25 and 26 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 27. Added events this year are the German Beer Hall in the Ballroom 4-5 Foyer, with beer, brats, pretzels and more, as well as the Murder Mystery Dinner in Battelle Grand on June 24 and June 25 at 6:30 p.m., sponsored by the Ohio Historical Society. Admission for the murder mystery event is $40. Origins Trade Day is a new pilot program specifically for retail stores and manufacturers, providing them with the opportunity to attend industry seminars and conduct business. There is open gaming throughout the concourse and many other areas 24 hours a day for the attendees for whom game-playing is an around-the-clock venture. There will also be a blood drive and the annual Origins Awards. During the show, there will be a variety of events for kids, including the Origins Kids Room. Throughout the Origins Game Fair, there will be industry guests of honor, board games, role playing, live action role-playing (LARPs), collectibles and card games, miniature and historical games, and tabletop games. Attendees might encounter a Twilight-style vampire LARP, Medieval-themed events and interactive mazes during the fair. GAMA was formed in 1977 to advance the hobby game industry and the Origins Game Fair in particular.
